Guide to studying in Sweden

Sweden is a Scandinavian country located in Northern Europe between Finland and Norway. It is known for its meatballs, flat-pack furniture, and its high-quality education system.

Swedish is the official language of the country, but many Swedes also speak English fluently. This means that you can study in Sweden without having to learn Swedish beforehand.

Sweden is home to some of the world’s leading universities, including Lund University and Uppsala University. These universities are consistently ranked among the top universities in the world, and they offer a high-quality education.

If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding academic experience, then Sweden is a great place to study. The country has a strong tradition of academic excellence, and its universities offer a wide range of degree programs that are taught in English.

Around 30% of all programs in Sweden (across undergraduate and postgraduate) are English taught, and this percentage continues to increase.

How to apply to universities in Sweden?

The application process is somewhat fragmented with each university having plenty of autonomy on how they want to manage the application process.

However, timelines are generally consistent across most universities. There are two application batches – one opens in the month of October of the year prior and the second opens in March.

The first one is typically that non-EU/EEA students must follow in order to allow for enough time to process student visas. However, students are free to choose whichever window they want to use.

There are comparable timelines for those students wanting to start in the spring semester, although not all universities have intakes during the spring semester. However, it may be an interesting off-cycle play if other processes are not going well in other countries.
